July 2022 Scam: Local Scam Alert

Clarksville police issued a warning to residents about scammers pretending to be members of the Clarksville Police Department (CPD). The criminals are using the “Caller ID” spoofing technique that allows calls to appear to be originating from a specific company or organization. The scammers are threatening arrest if they are not paid.

Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has also issued a warning about a new phone scam. In this case, the caller pretends to be from the sheriff’s office, tricking the victims into believing that an arrest warrant has been issued. The potential victims are then directed to meet with a woman and make a cash payment to have the fake charges dismissed.
