Committees & Collaborations

As a convener and catalyst agency, we live out our mission through collaboration. In addition to project-specific workgroups and coalitions, we engage and foster partnership and advocacy through these commmittees.

Current Committees & Collaborations

Leadership Council

We are pleased to convene invited leaders from 20+ organizations across Middle Tennessee to share information, exchange ideas and foster better service coordination and collaboration. Members stay abreast of new programs and services and help each other amplify outreach to older adults and caregivers.

When disaster strikes or unmet needs are identified, the Leadership Council comes together to exchange vital information, explore solutions and ensure that needs are met, often seeding new initiatives or collaborative opportunities.

The group also serves as a “think tank” providing feedback to colleagues for content development and new programs.

Middle TN Elder Watch

We convene the region’s affiliate for the TN Vulnerable Adults Coalition - Middle TN Elder Watch - to bring together individuals and organizations to combat fraud, abuse, neglect and exploitation of older adults.

Members exchange information and foster collaboration while working to prevent elder abuse and scams and provide assistance to victims.

Member organizations also work together to educate the public and raise awareness about elder abuse, annually promoting World Elder Abuse Day in June.

Legislative/Advocacy

As a champion and advocate for older adults and caregivers, our Legislative/Advocacy Committee meets throughout the year to discuss current policy issues, communicate with state and local leaders and share calls to action. We advocate for and with older adults and family caregivers to enhance our community and support positive aging.

Members include AARP-TN representatives as well as community volunteers and colleagues from public and private organizations. AgeWell board member James Powers, MD, from Vanderbilt University Medical Center chairs this committee.

TN Coalition for Better Aging

AgeWell is pleased to partner with organizations across the state and lead the Tennessee Coalition for Better Aging (TCBA). TCBA promotes the general welfare of older Tennesseans and their families through partnerships that mobilize resources to educate and advocate for important policies and programs. AgeWell Executive Director, Grace Smith, and board member, Dr. Jim Powers, serve as TCBA Co-Chairs.

In Spring 2021, TCBA hosted three virtual meetings and launched an advocacy campaign to Reimagine Long Term Services and Supports in Tennessee. Our collective efforts have led to increased state investments in home and community-based services, more support for Grandparents raising grandchildren, and elevating the TN Commission on Aging & Disability to cabinet level through the merged Dept. of Disability & Aging.
