May 2025 Scam: Toll Booth Text Tricks
As technology advances, so do the tactics of scammers looking to exploit unsuspecting individuals. Two weeks ago, the Tennessee Attorney General’s (TN AG) Consumer Protection Division issued a warning alerting Tennesseans to a growing threat of toll road balance texting scams.
These phishing messages claim that you have unpaid toll road or EZ Pass balances, urging you to pay immediately to avoid fines and/or suspension of your vehicle registration. The text messages also include links to fake websites designed to steal your money, personal and financial information. According to the TN AG’s office, these tactics cost Tennesseans over $190 million in 2024.
